Domaine Machard de Gramont

A highly respected Gevrey Chambertin producer

Domaine Machard de Gramont is a family-owned estate located in Nuits-Saint-Georges which owns 20 hectares of vineyards spread over the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, from Chenôve to Puligny-Montrachet. The vines grow in limestone soils mixed with various other soils and a large part of the vineyards sits on hillside slopes. The vineyards were abandoned during the war and the phylloxera crisis. After a long period of restoration undertaken by the domaine, the vineyards are now in excellent condition and include some old vines dating from 1914. The average age of the vines is about 30 years old. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and undergo a rigorous sorting. The red and white wines are vinified at low temperature in oak barrels with natural yeasts. They are then aged for 12 to 18 months in the cellar. Malolactic fermentation is permitted only after analysis. The wines are then bottled unfiltered by the domaine.
